What is Organic Product?

In this part of our article, we would like to briefly describe the organic product. Products that do not contain any components harmful to the human and the environment, are easy to recycle, and all production processes are inspected within the framework of standards, and are called organic products. Awareness of organic products has increased in our country, especially in European countries. Problems such as the emergence of various diseases, the rapid pollution of nature and the global warming reaching very serious levels increased the awareness of organic products. In this context, the organic product market is supported through various applications, audits and government incentives.

Purpose of Organic Product Regulation

One of the most important objectives of organic product regulation is to protect ecological balance. As mentioned above, ecological balance has been damaged due to environmental pollution, global warming and natural disasters. However, some living things have been extinct and very serious natural events have started to occur due to global warming. In particular, the rapid disappearance of natural resources has increased the awareness of preserving the ecological balance. In this regulation, we can say that one of the main objectives is the protection of ecological balance.

With the mentioned regulation, it is aimed to carry out organic agricultural activities. With this regulation, which was issued in 2005 instead of non-standard practices of the buildings, organic agricultural activities were started within the framework of standards and audits. With the regulation, organic agricultural markets are also determined. It is aimed to develop existing markets and to create new market areas.

Scope of Organic Products Regulation

The scope of the organic product regulation is very wide. All aquaculture, animal and herbal product production covers inputs with organic farming methods. In addition, the protection of forests and natural areas is also within the scope of the mentioned regulation. Processing, packaging, labeling, storage, distribution and marketing of organic agricultural products within the scope of the standards are within the scope. In addition, all kinds of auditing and punishment standards are determined within the organic product regulations.

Organic Production in Turkey

comprehensive scope of organic production standards in Turkey are determined by state regulations. Aim, scope and all standards are clearly laid out with the regulation adopted in 2005. When we look at the history of organic production in our country, we see the mid-1980s. First of all, some western European countries agreed with some people in the Aegean Region and bought products such as prunes, dried apricots. Later on, some regulations were issued in 1993, albeit limited. The comprehensive and most important regulation was the regulation that we mentioned above and published in the official newspaper in 2005.

According to the latest data announced by TURKSTAT, there are nearly 250 different organic products in our country. We can market these products to many countries, especially Western European countries. Our country, which has a production capacity of nearly 2 million tons of organic products every year, is on the way to becoming an organic agriculture country. At this point, the effects of various government incentives especially applied by the state are very high. Nearby is the volume of organic products also an agricultural country, Turkey has come to a much better level. Government incentives and farmers' actions will also be important in this regard. We should continue to attach importance to organic agriculture for a healthier and cleaner future.
